A Necessary Clarification on Purchasing Loner on Itch.io
Itch.io doesn’t clearly highlight page and file updates the way DriveThruRPG does (which, to its credit, handles this very well). As a result, when Loner Core 3e launched yesterday, many previous buyers mistakenly thought it was a new version of the full game and repurchased Loner Complete.
I did mention in the launch post that the update was only for Core, but the message was likely buried in a longer post, making it easy to miss.
So, to be absolutely clear:
✅ This is an update to Core, which, as you know, is a free game.
✅ The update for Complete will come later this year (I’ll keep you posted).
✅ When that update happens, previous buyers will get it for free.
The real issue here is Itch.io’s opaque handling of updates. To address this, I’ve made some changes:
- Added a disclaimer at the top of the page.
- Set the page to Pay What You Want (PWYW). You don’t have to pay anything, but this option allowed me to set a differentiated price for Loner Complete.
I hope this makes things clearer. If you accidentally repurchased the game, I strongly encourage you to request a refund through Itch.io support at support@itch.io (unfortunately, I can’t issue refunds myself due to platform restrictions).
Apologies for the confusion, and thanks for your support!
