We Were Here Once – Update v1.5
A new version of We Were Here Once is here, and with it comes a deeper, richer framework for bringing your dying world to life. This update expands the worldbuilding phase, adding new tables to define the planet, civilization, and the remnants left behind.
What’s New in v1.5?
🌍 Expanded Worldbuilding: “Fleshing Out the Planet and Civilization”
Before the first game turn, players now establish the setting in greater detail, rolling or choosing from a series of d66 tables:
- 🌑 Name the World – What was this planet called?
- 🔥 Define the Planet’s Fate – Why is the world dying?
- 🏜️ Shape the Landscape – What does the planet look like as it fades?
- 🌊 Identify Its Vanishing Wonders – What once-great natural features are now lost?
- 🏛️ Determine the Civilization’s Legacy – What was their society built upon? What were their greatest achievements?
- 🛠️ Define the Present Struggles – How do the last survivors live? What dangers still haunt them?
- 📜 What Remains? – What relics of the past endure? What do the last survivors whisper to one another?
This section allows every game to start with a unique world, shaped by the echoes of a lost civilization.
📖 New “Random Tables” Section
At the end of the book, a vast collection of d66 tables has been added to help inspire moments of mystery, decay, and finality throughout play.
🔹 Lost Traditions and Rituals – What customs still endure, even if their meanings are lost?
🔹 Fading Technologies – What broken or half-functioning relics of progress still remain?
🔹 Scarce and Precious Resources – What dwindling materials still matter?
🔹 Sects, Cults, and Beliefs – What groups cling to meaning in the final days?
🔹 Legends and Myths of the End – What stories are still told about fate, time, and survival?
🔹 Ruins and Relics of the Past – What structures and artifacts stand as echoes of lost glory?
🔹 Figures of the Final Age – Who are the last rulers, rebels, prophets, or scavengers?
🔹 Dying Settlements – Where do the last survivors live, and how do they endure?
🔹 Taboos and Forbidden Knowledge – What knowledge is still feared, hidden, or unspeakable?
🔹 Signs of the End – What eerie, unexplainable phenomena mark the decline of the world?
These tables bring even more depth and inspiration to the Chronicle, ensuring that no two games feel the same.
